About ten years ago a friend recommended I read George Saunders’ book of stories Civil War Land in Bad Decline. I found the title story about a collapsing war-themed amusement park both hilarious and wildly thought-provoking, and have been a fan ever since. (A few years later I was lucky enough to see him give one of the funniest literary readings I’ve ever attended.)
So I was particularly happy to learn that Saunders will be reading at Widener University’s Main Campus at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, in Room 1 of the Kapelski Learning Center. The reading is free and open to the public.
To learn more about Saunders, you can watch his appearances on The David Letterman Show from September 2007 or the Colbert Report from October 2007, and read an interview with him on The New Yorker magazine’s blog and his short story “Escape from Spiderhead” that was published in the Dec. 20 issue of The New Yorker.
Don’t miss your chance to see him on campus.
