Graduating Senior on Softball Team Relied on Widener Support During Family Tragedies

April 25, 2011

Both of Kelly Vogelsgang’s parents died in her first two years at Widener — her father during her freshman year, and her mother during her sophomore year.  Despite these losses, she stayed in school and on the Widener softball team and will graduate next month.

“We have three other seniors on this team, and without them I would have never made it through,” she told KYW Newsradio’s Matt Leon.  “Without (head coach) Fred (Dohrmann), without the people at Widener giving me such a great scholarship, without my friends and family. . .  I can’t say enough good things.  Without them I wouldn’t be able to be here today, and it’s almost surreal knowing that this is coming to an end.”
