The Widener Pride women’s basketball team will make history on Wednesday, February 20, when it hosts its first conference tournament home game since 1983.

The women’s team catapulted into the playoffs after its victory over Arcadia last Saturday.   The Pride has been flawless at home, 11-0, and has won nine consecutive games. The team has gone 21-4 this season, and has set the school record for most overall wins and most conference wins in a season. It is ranked fifth in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region standings.

The squad’s success can be partially attributed to senior guard Kate Dellinger, who was featured in the fall 2011 issue of Widener Magazine. Dellinger, a psychology/pre-physical therapy major from Wrightsville, Pennsylvania, has earned numerous honors for her athletic ability such as Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year and Philadelphia Inquirer Women’s Basketball Performer of the Year. Dellinger works equally as hard in the classroom as she’s been named an Academic All-American, the 45th in Widener’s history.

Wednesday’s game will begin at 6 p.m. at the Schwartz Center. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors, $2 for non-Widener students, and free for Widener students and those under age six.

  1. Widener suffered a tough loss, 68-56, but still has a chance to make the NCAA tournament through an at-large bid. Those will be announced Monday. http://www.widenerpride.com/news/2013/2/20/WBB_0220135603.aspx
