An annual event celebrating various academic achievements of Widener students begins on Sunday, March 17.

Honors Week 2013 ends on Friday, March 22 with an Honors Convocation that will feature an address from alumnus, Hugh Allen ’95, ’05, who will discuss how the university helped build his future.  Allen, currently director of commonwealth relations at the University of Pennsylvania, holds a bachelor’s degree in government and politics and a master’s degree in public administration from Widener.

An array of events will occur during Honors Week that will include student presentations and honor society inductions. There will also be cultural events such as student and faculty recitals, open-mic night, an observatory viewing, and a faculty jazz concert featuring John Vanore and Abstract Truth.

Vanore ’69 is director of music at the university and will perform a free jazz concert with his group at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 21 in Alumni Auditorium.

Honors Week began in 1992 with 14 honor societies, but it has since expanded with a current total of 34 honor societies and programs. This year’s festivities will comprise 38 student presentations and performances.
