Widener Magazine won four awards last week at the annual conference held by CUPRAP, The Association of Communicators in Education. The 2013 CUPPIE awards recognize excellence in communications among more than 260 entries received from schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, and Maryland.

Dan Hanson ’97, director of public relations, won a gold award in the feature article category for “A Nursing Leader’s Nightmare” about Bahrainian nurse Rula Al-Saffar that ran in the fall 2012 issue.  Al-Saffar will be Widener’s commencement speaker on May 18 and will be awarded an honorary doctorate in public service.

Jennifer Dublisky ’11, assistant director of public relations, won a bronze award for the story “A Big Battle at the Smallest Levels” from the spring 2012 issue. The magazine won a silver award in the overall magazine category.  The cover of fall 2012 issue, designed by Greatest Creative Factor (GCF), also won a silver award in the cover category.

The four awards this year equal the number of CUPPIEs the magazine won last year.
